We put our questions to Slammer Studios in this exclusive chat about their upcoming new slot game, Legend of Odysseus.

DISCUSSING THE THEME
SlotsHawk – Thanks for speaking to us guys, let’s get straight into it. In Legend of Odysseus, will we see Odysseus on his voyage to Troy or is he lost on his return to Ithaca?
Slammer Studios – We chose to focus on Odysseus after the fall of Troy because that’s where the real story begins. His journey home is full of strange detours, mythical creatures, and moments of real uncertainty, which gave us far more room to explore creatively. The version of Odysseus we’re working with isn’t marching off to war–he’s trying to survive what comes after it. That’s also why the Underworld features in the game. It’s a major part of his return journey in the original myth, and thematically it fits with the feeling of being caught between worlds-home and exile, life and death, past and future. It gave us a rich backdrop for one of our bonus rounds, and it helps tie everything together tonally.
SlotsHawk – What was the inspiration behind the theme? There are plenty of god and ancient history themed slots, what about the theme in Legend of Odysseus do you think is special?
Slammer Studios – The theme was chosen for its strong connection to the game’s mechanical structure. Odysseus’s legendary journey provides a natural metaphor for progression, challenge, and reward–all key elements in the slot’s design. While mythology is a familiar setting in slots, Legend of Odysseus™ uses it in a way that reinforces the gameplay experience, not just the visuals.
It’s a proven thematic approach, but what makes it special here is how well it supports the feeling of steady advancement through the Free Games–collecting values, unlocking bigger rewards, and building tension. The narrative backdrop enhances the sense of a purposeful journey, making the player feel like they’re part of something more epic than a standard bonus round.
SlotsHawk – What can we expect regarding the music/soundtrack in Legend of Odysseus?
Slammer Studios – The music in Odysseus has been designed to fully immerse players in the spirit of ancient Greece. One of the standout elements is the use of the bouzouki, a staple of Greek music that traces its roots back to the ancient pandoura. While it’s known today as a modern folk instrument, its deep connection to Greek musical history makes it a natural choice for this setting.
You’ll also hear traditional instruments like the lyre, aulos, and pan flute, which help bring an authentic, atmospheric feel to the game. The melodies are inspired by classical Greek musical styles, offering subtle nods to the culture and history behind the legend.
Beyond just setting the scene, the soundtrack plays a big role in telling the story. It shifts to match the action, building tension during the bonus rounds, softening during moments of reflection and helping to carry the emotional weight of Odysseus’s journey. There are even touches that echo famous moments from the myth, like the haunting lure of the Sirens.

SlotsHawk – What is the usual turnaround time for a slot game from the beginning of development to the finish? And how does the Legend of Odysseus development process compare with slots you have produced in the past?
Slammer Studios – The usual turnaround time for a slot game is typically anything between 3 to 6 months, depending on the complexity of the maths model, feature set, and overall visual design.
The development of Legend of Odysseus involved layered gameplay, narrative elements, and custom animations. These elements required close collaboration across teams and a more iterative approach during design and prototyping, helping to shape a polished and engaging final product.
SlotsHawk – How will you balance a fun base game with the obvious excitement brought by the bonus games? For us, the games that tend to let us down are the ones where the base game offers little and everything is geared towards triggering the bonus.
Slammer Studios – To balance a fun base game with the obvious excitement of the bonus, we focus on making the core experience engaging in its own right–rather than just a waiting room for the big feature. That means adding light-to-medium volatility mechanics like nudging reels, symbol upgrades, or persistent wilds that offer meaningful wins and variety. Frequent micro-wins, visual teases, and satisfying sound design help keep the energy up between bonuses.
We also like to preview elements of the bonus round during base play, giving players a glimpse of what’s to come and building anticipation. The goal is for the bonus to elevate an already entertaining experience–not to compensate for a base game that feels empty or secondary.
SlotsHawk – We like the fact that Legend of Odysseus will allow the player to choose which bonus he/she would like to play and we believe that more new slots should give players a bit more freedom, what was your thinking behind this decision? Did you ever consider making it random?
Slammer Studios – We wanted Legend of Odysseus to feel player-driven, and letting players choose their bonus round was a natural way to reinforce that. One option offers a more volatile experience, while the other provides a more consistent and frequent style of play—so giving players that choice adds both strategic depth and replayability. While we did consider a random trigger early on, we felt that letting players decide made the moment more meaningful and the overall experience more engaging. It’s a direction we’re excited about, and you can expect to see more player-choice mechanics in our upcoming titles.
SlotsHawk – What kind of values can we expect from the cash collect mechanic? What are the highest paying cash values?
Slammer Studios – 3 levels of Cash coin values appear during the Free Games feature, with a maximum individual value of x20. There are 24 individual spots available, each capable of holding a cash value. Additionally, there’s a chance for multiple collect symbols to land in a single spin, which can double the total collected amount, adding significant win potential.
SlotsHawk – You say that Legend of Odysseus is about offering players a sense of heroic progression”, how do you plan to do this exactly other than allowing players to choose their own bonus game?
Slammer Studios – We support the feeling of heroic progression through several layered design choices. First, the Free Games mode is structured to feel like an unfolding journey, with each spin revealing cash values and the potential for escalating wins through multiple collect symbols. The presence of 24 individual cash positions, combined with the chance to double total values, creates a sense of building momentum and reward.
Additionally, the visual and audio design evolves during the bonus, reflecting the narrative arc of Odysseus’s adventure. Transitions, animations, and character-driven elements all reinforce the idea of progress through stages, challenges, and victories–giving players the impression they’re advancing through an epic tale, not just spinning reels.
